Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai

The Al Fahidi Fort was built in 1787 which is now known as Dubai Musem. It was initially used for residential and political purposes. In 1971 this fort was repaired by Sheik Al Maktoum and was turned into a museum. In the year 1995, an underground museum was created in the fort.

The museum contains tombs, ancient documents, diagrams, and monuments. It is also counted among one of the oldest existing buildings in the UAE. All of these will give a clear idea of the early settlements of Dubai. The fort is divided into different wings and each section has its own theme. Right at the entrance, you will be treated to ancient maps of Dubai and the Emirates, these maps will also show you the expansion of the area right after the oil business took off. There is a model of the souk depicting the life and profession of craftsmen and shopkeepers.

The museum is also home to other galleries that showcase the difference between rural and urban lives within Dubai. The pearl diving section may be small but it is certainly worth visiting, this section shows how early divers would use very basic gear to dive into the depth of the ocean for pearls.

The monument section of the museum has tombs, weapons, pottery, and models of buildings belonging to the urban communities. The natural phenomena and astronomy wing is also worth visiting.

The last gallery section contains important findings from archaeological digs from tombs at AI Qusasis, Hatta, and Jumeirah. You will also be shown small videos that will reveal the history of Dubai and educate you on the history of this city.

How To Reach Al Fahidi Fort?

This place is very easy to reach from the Dubai Airport, the total travel time is 8 minutes. If you are arriving from the airport you can avail of the metro till Burjuman station and then another metro will take you to Al Fahidi station. The walk from the station to the museum takes nearly 9 minutes.

This is located on Al Fahidi street which is very close to Abu Thalib road near Bur Dubai.

Timings

The museum is open to visitors from Saturday right up to Thursday and the timing is from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm.

What’s the Al Fahidi Fort Entry Ticket Price?

The entrance fee for the museum is 3 AED for adults and 1 AED for children below 6 years. The ticket to the fort includes entry to the museum so you do not have to pay anything extra.

This museum showcases the rich history of Dubai and is home to some of the rarest relics and artifacts. Tourists are not permitted to lay their hands or mishandle in any manner. Any damage caused to the exhibit will result in payment of a hefty fine. Visitors are advised to put their phones on silent mode. If you wish to carry a camera inside the museum you have to get prior permission from the authorities. Keep all this information in mind and you should have no problems at all.
